About Me
Hi there! I’m Soo Ling, a self-taught watercolor artist from Malaysia.
I was formerly a medical writer for about 15 years, but I have always been attracted to art since a young age. While I had taken some weekend drawing classes when I was a kid (because my parents didn’t want me to idle at home!), and joined a couple of watercolor workshops during my adult years, I only picked up my brushes and started to paint regularly in my late 40s.
From learning and experimenting with different styles and subject matters, to finding over time what I truly love and enjoy to paint and create, I made up my mind to travel this creative journey for as long as I could.
I usually seek inspirations from my environment, weekend trips and holiday travels. It could be from the potted plants in my yard, or the wide array of foliage at the plant nursery, or even wild flowers and ferns by the roadside I encounter during my walks.
I find appreciating, drawing and painting botanicals a mesmerizing process. One can’t help but be in awe of beauty that Nature gifted us with. Painting plants and flowers not only allows me to connect with nature in an artistic way, but also brings me joy, serenity and, sometimes, a sense of nostalgia.
I sincerely hope that my artwork could evoke the same pleasant feelings for you.
Besides painting in watercolor, I also dabble in surface pattern design and digital illustration.
I’m currently living with my husband and two dogs in a suburb to the south of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. My favorite places to visit are plant nurseries, bookstores and art supply shops, and I love hanging out at places with great coffee and music.
